At Timeout, we believe that continuous learning is important to have a rewarding and fulfilling career.

Our philosophy is that if we all continue learning and progressing, this practice will then convey itself into the lives of the children we care for. It is in with this philosophy, that we have created knowledgeable and resilient learners that use their teachings to improve their practice and achieve individual goals.

We understand that learning cannot be limited to a training room, and we have designed different methods of learning to reach each individual. This provides opportunities to share our experiences and stories and allow us to learn from our mistakes and our successes. We can then continue to develop ourselves and push the boundaries of our knowledge and understanding and celebrate our successes together.

Our clinical team have developed a comprehensive module training programme that is delivered across our multiple therapy suites, to all sectors within the organisation. This training is specifically designed to focus on the impact of early trauma and abuse on the developing child in our care, with particular reference to brain development, attachment theory & developmental trauma.

This training provides support to each role to provide bespoke care and education, that is distinct to each child and focuses on their individual needs.

Our clinical team further support our teams through supervisions, secure base consultations on a 1:1 basis, therapeutic module training, and clinical support within team meetings.

  • We provide specialised in-house and online training that focuses on developing your skills and knowledge to support children to return to baseline, understanding children's triggers, and trends and patterns linking to their behaviours displayed. This training is completed during each onboarding programme, and is refreshed regularly to provide updated knowledge and learning relating to our children.

  • We will provide systematic training which is delivered through team discussions, report formulation, graph analysis, and group workshops. In these sessions, you will learn the capturing of key information, reviewing and creating reports based on the children's journeys, and the importance of recording and reporting as the children progress to their next stage in their lives. Through this training we aim to develop your skills on how to accurately record, analyse, and retrieve information.

  • Safeguarding our children is crucial in everyone's roles here at Timeout, and at the centre of the practice we deliver. In line with this, we implement online and classroom safeguarding training, into all employee's onboarding programmes. This ensures everyone has a thorough understanding of safeguarding, and specifically Timeout's procedures and internal pathways to follow.

  • Team dynamics are essential for the success of any team; and having a strong successful team, provides the best outcomes for our children. We enable our teams to build strong professional relationships through team meetings, coaching and mentoring, observations of practice, and peer-on-peer support. Through these methods, we can see consistent, high-quality care provided to our children.

  • As an organisation, we adopt a therapeutic approach to the care of children. This means, you will have a significant amount of interaction with our clinical team. This is delivered through supervisions, secure base consultations on a 1:1 basis, therapeutic module training, understanding of different methods of therapy (e.g. play therapy and art therapy) and clinical support within team meetings. There is an importance in understanding children’s attachment and trauma and how these impacts on their future; therefore, we provide training to promote a strong understanding of attachment theory.

  • Training programmes are provided to support individual children’s health needs. This can include: ADHD, ASD, Diabetes, Self Harm and ODD. We put a strong emphasis on the importance of understanding children’s emotional wellbeing, the importance of nutrition and diet, and how to capture children’s progression throughout their childhood.

We promote this internally for our employees also, and provide in-house and external wellbeing programmes to support each role with their health and wellbeing.

  • At Timeout, we strive for professional development for all our employees and support this in any way we can. One way we provide this support, is enrolling our carers to complete a Level 4 Residential Childcare qualification. This qualification is an essential part of our carers journey, and provides specialised knowledge relating directly to their role.

Within the carer role, there is also an opportunity to enrol onto the Level 5 Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare once the level 4 is completed. This enables carers to gain the skills and qualification to work towards a Registered Manager role within our organisation.

We continue this development into our educational roles, including enrolling on Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualifications, and specialised SEND qualifications in line with our children's needs.
