Seeing Care Through a Child’s Eyes: Introducing the Young Inspectors Program

What does "good care" truly look like through the eyes of a child? At Timeout, we believe the most authentic answer comes from asking the children themselves. Their voices, their experiences, and their perspectives are the key to understanding what it means to create a safe, supportive, and empowering environment.

That’s why we’re thrilled to announce the launch of our new Young Inspectors programme, an initiative designed to place children’s voices at the very heart of our quality assurance process. Spearheaded by our Director of Care, Chen Dunn, this programme is a bold step forward in reimagining how we evaluate and improve residential care.

What is the Young Inspectors Programme?

The Young Inspectors programme empowers young people to review our residential homes from their unique perspective. These young inspectors will provide invaluable, first-hand insights into the daily realities of home life, including sensitive areas such as timeout procedures.

This initiative is far more than a compliance exercise or a routine audit. It’s a commitment to seeing care through the eyes of those who experience it most directly—the children. By doing so, we can ensure that our practices are not only aligned with regulations but are also genuinely supportive, fair, and respectful of the children’s needs.

Why Children’s Voices Matter

Children are the true experts when it comes to their own care. They know what makes them feel safe, respected, and valued. By listening to their feedback, we can identify what’s working well and where improvements are needed. This approach not only enhances the quality of care but also empowers children to take an active role in shaping their environment.

The Young Inspectors programme is a testament to our belief that children’s voices should not just be heard but acted upon. It’s about creating a culture where their opinions are valued and their experiences drive meaningful change.

A Step Forward in Residential Care

By seeing care through a child’s eyes, we can move beyond mere compliance and focus on creating environments where children can truly thrive. This programme is a significant step forward in our mission to provide the highest standard of care, and we’re proud to lead the way in placing children’s voices at the centre of everything we do.

We invite you to join us in celebrating this important milestone. Together, we can build a future where every child feels safe, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential.
