Strengthening DDP Practice Across Our Service

Recently, I had a catch-up with one of our clinical team members, Assistant Psychologist Samar, who shared updates about the ongoing efforts and exciting new initiatives happening across our services. At Timeout Homes, our commitment to providing the highest standard of care is at the heart of everything we do. A core component of our therapeutic approach is Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP). We are always exploring ways to deepen our application of its principles. Our clinical team is excited to share some new initiatives designed to strengthen DDP practice across all our services, ensuring our teams feel confident and supported in their work with the children and young people we care for.

Embedding DDP in Daily Practice
DDP offers a powerful framework for helping children who have experienced developmental trauma. It focuses on building secure attachments and helping them make sense of their past experiences. To truly embed this approach, it needs to be more than a theory; it must be a living, breathing part of our daily interactions. With this goal in mind, our clinical team has been developing a suite of resources to make DDP principles more accessible and visible every day.
We believe that consistent, attuned, and responsive caregiving is the key to healing. These new tools are designed to support our staff in providing exactly that, moment by moment.
Introducing New DDP Resource Packs
One of the most significant developments is the creation of comprehensive DDP resource packs. Several of these are already in use within some of our homes, and we are working hard to roll out more.
These packs are not just manuals; they are practical toolkits filled with activities, guidance, and prompts that bring DDP theory to life. They are designed to help our care staff translate the core concepts of Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, and Empathy (PACE) into their everyday routines. The resources offer tangible ways to build connection, foster a sense of safety, and support children in co-regulating their emotions. The feedback from the homes already using them has been incredibly positive, and we are looking forward to seeing their impact grow as they are distributed more widely.
Keeping DDP Front and Centre
To further support the integration of DDP, we will soon be distributing new posters and lanyard cards across our homes and schools. The purpose of these materials is to act as a constant, visual reminder of the core principles that guide our practice.
The posters will be displayed in staff areas, offering a quick reference point and reinforcing the DDP mindset throughout the day. The lanyard cards provide a portable, discreet prompt for staff, keeping key concepts like PACE readily available during their interactions. It’s a simple but effective way to ensure that our therapeutic ethos remains at the forefront of everyone’s mind, helping to shape a consistent and nurturing environment for the children in our care.
Restarting DDP Consultation for Education Staff
We also recognise the unique role our education staff play and the specific challenges they can face. To support them, we are thrilled to announce that we will be restarting DDP consultation sessions.
These sessions provide a dedicated and confidential space for our education teams to come together with clinical support. It is an opportunity to reflect on their practice, discuss specific challenges, and explore different approaches within a supportive group setting. The goal is to build their confidence, deepen their understanding of DDP, and empower them to apply its principles effectively within the classroom environment. By fostering this collaborative and reflective practice, we can ensure our therapeutic approach is seamlessly woven through every aspect of a child's day.

A Continuous Commitment to Growth
These initiatives represent our ongoing commitment to professional development and clinical excellence. By equipping our teams with practical resources, constant reminders, and dedicated spaces for reflection, we are strengthening our ability to provide the best possible care. Nadia head of the clinical team is proud to support our dedicated staff as we continue to learn and grow together, all for the benefit of the children and young people at Timeout.
