At Time Out Homes, we believe that a business is only as strong as the community it serves. That's why, whenever we have the opportunity to give something back, we take it seriously. Supporting local causes isn't just a box we tick — it's part of how we operate and who we are.

This year, we found a cause that aligned so closely with our values that saying yes was the easiest decision we've made all year: Project Colt, a community hub based in Elland that's quietly transforming lives.

About Project Colt — Changing Lives for Good

Project Colt describes itself as a place where people are valued, have purpose, and can grow. It's a bold mission, but from everything we've seen and heard, it's one they're living up to.

The organisation focuses on three core pillars: community, enterprise, and recovery. At its heart, Project Colt supports people working towards sustained, healthy lifestyles free from life-controlling issues — while also welcoming their families, friends, and the wider public into the same space. There's no dividing line between "those receiving support" and "everyone else." It's simply a community, working and healing together.

What Project Colt Does — Place, Partners and Pathways

Project Colt's work is structured around three simple but powerful ideas:

• Place: Their mill provides a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all local people, cultivated by the whole team.

• Partners: Collaborators and concessions work alongside Project Colt to deliver unique products and services back into the community.

• Pathways: A range of support services, workshops, and volunteer placements are designed specifically to help local people move forward, whatever stage they're at.

The numbers speak for themselves. Project Colt has welcomed over 50,000 visitors, supported 268 participants, relied on 61 volunteers, and received more than 10,800 donated items. These aren't just statistics — they represent real people finding a place to belong.

Bridgefield Mills — More Than Just a Building

At the centre of Project Colt's work is Bridgefield Mills, the physical home of everything the charity does. But calling it "just a building" doesn't do it justice.

Bridgefield Mills is where recovery groups meet, where volunteers give their time, where workshops and training sessions happen, and where the local community gathers for events like the Rusty Bike Shed Wellbeing Bike Rides. It's a hub in the truest sense — a space that brings people together rather than separating them by circumstance.

Securing this building isn't a small task, though. Project Colt launched a crowdfunding campaign to purchase Bridgefield Mills outright, ensuring the space remains a permanent fixture for the community rather than something that could be lost to rising costs or uncertain leases.

Why Janet, Our CEO, Chose to Support Project Colt

Janet, our CEO at Timeout Homes, has always been drawn to causes that put local people first. When she came across Project Colt, what stood out immediately was its status as a genuine not-for-profit organisation built entirely around community need — not around commercial interest.

"I've seen a lot of organisations claim to support their communities," Janet said. "Project Colt actually does it. Everything from the way they've designed Bridgefield Mills to how they talk about recovery and belonging tells you this is a place built with real care. That's exactly the kind of cause we want to stand behind."

For Janet, and for Timeout Homes as a whole, it was Project Colt's focus on dignity and integration — treating everyone, regardless of their journey, as part of one community — that made the decision an easy one.
