True connection is the foundation of healing, a principle deeply embraced at Timeout Children's Homes. In a recent conversation with Nadia, our Clinical Lead at the organisation, she shared her reflections on participating in a significant professional event. The experience offered valuable opportunities to present Timeout’s work, connect with a broader community, and reinforce the vital role of strong relational communities in recovery from trauma.

When asked about the experience of presenting alongside her colleague, Demi Clutton, Nadia described it as a true honour. The platform allowed them to showcase their approaches to creating nurturing and therapeutic environments for young people. However, Nadia emphasised that the most meaningful moments came from listening, learning, and engaging with other practitioners who share a passion for attachment, trauma awareness, and the transformative power of relationships.

“The atmosphere was energising,” Nadia explained. “Being surrounded by people devoted to creating spaces of safety and connection brought a real sense of shared purpose. The conversations were rich, the ideas thought-provoking, and I came away feeling reassured that, even when the work is tough, we’re not alone.”

The Power of a Shared Purpose

Working with children who have experienced trauma, Nadia noted, requires deep commitment and empathy, as well as a steadfast belief in every child’s capacity to heal. While she finds this work deeply meaningful, Nadia acknowledged it can sometimes feel heavy. She expressed gratitude for being with other professionals who truly understand these unique challenges.

During the event, Nadia and Demi engaged in discussions that delved into the complexities of attachment theory and its application in residential care. The exchange of innovative strategies for helping young people regulate emotions and build trust was, in Nadia’s words, “like weaving a tapestry—every conversation a vital thread in our collective commitment to fostering resilience and healing.”

Nadia remarked on the palpable sense of community, observing that the very principles guiding their homes—safety, connection, and mutual respect—are equally essential among practitioners. “This supportive network gives us the strength and motivation we need to keep going,” she said.

Bringing New Insights into Practice

When reflecting on what she took away from the event, Nadia spoke of feeling inspired, humbled, and re-energised. The knowledge shared and connections made granted her not only fresh perspectives but also a renewed commitment to the organisation’s mission. “It’s one thing to believe in a philosophy of care,” she shared, “but to see it championed by so many experts striving for the same goals is incredibly affirming.”

For Nadia, new insights gained are more than theoretical—they are practical tools and reinforced beliefs already being woven into daily life at Timeout Children’s Homes. Whether through refining therapeutic techniques or strengthening her internal team, she described this experience as bringing immense value. “It fuels our dedication to ensuring every child feels seen, heard, and valued,” Nadia affirmed.

Nadia is excited to continue this journey of learning, collaboration, and building communities that heal, one meaningful connection at a time.
